Calgary (Arbour Lake)

Homestay in Calgary, Canada

We’re delighted to welcome you to our home. We are experienced cross-cultural hosts (11+ years experience) who truly enjoy the dinner conversation and making your stay in Canada memorable. We are cross-cultural enthusiasts who have travelled extensively.

The fee includes dedicated bathroom (in a private hallway with your bedroom), healthy meals (will discuss special diets) Monday through Thursday (no meals Friday to Sunday evenings), separate, exclusive kitchen for you to prepare a simple breakfast/lunch/snack (continental breakfast foods provided), laundry facilities, parking, and many little perks - trips to the mountains, family board game nights, skating.

MEAL OPTIONS:
OPTION 1 - ONLY BREAKFAST: Your homestay includes breakfast, and your breakfast foods are placed in your suite kitchen for your convenience. The fee for homestay, including healthy breakfast for one week is $315. Breakfast foods are provided in your semi-private suite: cereals, milk, fruit, breads, butter, peanut butter, jam, tea, coffee, juice, sugar, frozen waffles & syrup, yogurt, hard boiled egg. Your kitchen is set up with everything you need to enjoy your breakfast (and more). With this option, you can buy pre-prepared lunch and dinner foods at the grocery store and heat them in the microwave. There are lots of healthy pre-prepared options in our grocery stores - even freshly cooked chicken, sushi, salads, soups, casseroles, vegetables, etc.

OPTION 2 - BREAKFAST AND DINNER MONDAY TO THURSDAY: You may choose to have dinner with our family. Dinners are a family affair. My husband, my daughter (18) and myself enjoy hearing about one another's day and making plans for upcoming weekends and holidays celebrations, as well as discussing current events. Dinners are varied, but always healthy: low sugar, homemade, lots of vegetables, some ethnic dishes, some vegetarian dishes. You are welcome to talk and/or help me while I make dinner. With this option, you can eat with our family Monday through Thursday, and then eat with friends or on your own on the weekends. If that interests you, the rate is $355 per week. Please feel free to enjoy some of your evening with us - talk, watch TV, play boardgames, go for walks.

Our dog, Sailor, is a small, non-shedding (better for allergies) dog. He does not hang out in the semi-private suite; he stays upstairs. You will not have to interact with him.

EASY PUBLIC TRANSIT: 10 minutes to C-train. Total time is 30 minutes to University of Calgary (my husband works at the university, so we know how long it takes); Total time is 40 minutes to SAIT; Total time is 40 minutes to downtown. We are convenient to shopping, movie theatres, restaurants, doctors’ offices, etc – about a 25-minute walk. You can also create an entire vacation itinerary within 30 minutes of us: museums, hiking, art gallery, artisan shop, bookstore with a cafe with comfy sofas & alcohol, farmers' markets, airport, botanical garden, historic sites, restaurants, university, downtown. Finally, you can take a 40-minute walk down to the ponds. Most of the year, you can see more than two dozen species of birds and ducks at the ponds. On a clear day, you will have a nice view of the Rocky Mountains from the ponds too. It’s lovely to sit on the benches or in the gazebo to relax and enjoy a bit of nature.
