What makes our homestay unique: Homes sell for $1 Million on our block. Columbian Ave was recognized as one of the 10 most expensive blocks to live on in Oak Park. And, we only host 2 students who are serious about their education at a time, in very large student rooms on the second floor of our home, (not in the basement.) Private bedroom for each student with walk-in closets, large desks and flat screen TV’s. New sheets & towels. One full bath room and one ½ bath for 2 students to share. (Students share bathroom with 1 other student) Host's have separate bathroom in their bedroom. Newly renovated elegant home, in excellent condition, located in an affluent section of Chicago’s Frank Lloyd Wright Historic District in the Village of Oak Park. Professionally cleaned by our housekeeper, with the washer and Dryer on the first floor.

We are fully vaccinated for Covid-19 and require proof of FULL vaccination of guests 2-weeks prior to entering our home.

Quiet and safe neighborhood. Public transportation is 3 blocks away. Downtown Chicago is 20-30 minutes via bus or train. Included is a self-serve continental breakfast: cereal, milk or yogurt, (or toast with jam) coffee or tea, juice or fruit. Limited kitchen privileges offered with use of the microwave and toaster only. Guests are expected to exit our home M-F during normal business hours. Therefore we are not able to host individuals who are not attending school or internship full-time.

KL and Lyle are members of World Chicago serving as citizen diplomats for the International Visitor Leadership Program and have frequently hosted international visitors for dinner in their home. It is through this experience as well as their professional travels; that they have decided to renovate and expand the size of their home to accommodate live-in guests and enable them to comfortably host international students in their Chicago home.

KL, (61) is a self proclaimed Army Brat, having lived throughout the world as a child, and later as a foreign exchange student, studying abroad. Her mother was a native of Karlsruhe, Germany and her oldest two siblings were born in Germany. Throughout her 15-year corporate career she traveled internationally and has now made her home in the Oak Park, Frank Lloyd Historic District with her husband of 13 years, Lyle and their dog, Ellie a small Pointer mix! As an avid gourmet cook, she maintains both an organic rare heirloom vegetable and a culinary herb garden. She is a graduate of the Kelly School of Business, Indiana University. In 2005, KL was presented with the ATHENA Award in recognition of her dedication to educating and developing women leaders. As an advocate of promoting community involvement through servant leadership, KL was named the 2008 Outstanding Community Leader, by Concordia University-Chicago.

Lyle, (67) a licensed architect works in downtown Chicago, aka the Loop (commuting by train) for JP Morgan Chase. He holds a Master’s Degree in Architecture from the University of Michigan. Lyle has traveled internationally, managing projects in England, France, Canada, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Bermuda, Singapore, Turkey, India, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Luxemburg . His presentations and publications on the historical significance of the Chicago World’s Fair-Columbian Exposition 1942 have gained him notoriety as a Chicago historian. He received the prestigious Cabeen Award from the Chicago Coin Club, (CCC) for his outstanding presentation on The Golden Mean and Fibonacci Series. Throughout his entire life, Lyle has been an avid collector of minerals and fossils. In early 2009 he procured a museum grade Canadian Ammonite, (fossilized, hard shell of an extinct mollusk) which has been dated at approximately 71 million years old which he proudly displays in the Daly’s home.

KL speaks some German and Spanish and Lyle does speak, read and write in Spanish.
