Sam's Garden Homestay

Port Moody (Eagle Ridge)

홈스테이 캐나다, Port Moody

Welcome to Vancouver!

My name is Samantha and my husband's name is Matthew.

We lived in Osaka City and Okinawa, Japan, for about 8 years as English teachers. I was also a student in Okinawa. In Japan, we visited Kyoto, Nara, Tokyo, Himeji, Beppu, the Noto Peninsula, Bizen, and Kanazawa. Between the two of us, we've also travelled to China (Shanghai, Souzhou, Hangzhou), Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, the UK, Turkey, many countries in Europe, and the United States. We really like meeting people from other countries, and have hosted students from Mexico, Thailand, and Japan for over 2 years. We have enjoyed learning about our students' home countries, trying new food, and showing them around Vancouver.

In my spare time, I like gardening, art, reading, learning languages, and doing martial arts. Matthew enjoys music, reading, creative writing, building things, and BBQing. Every weekend we take our children, Victoria and William, to Japanese school. They are 9 and 7 years old. We hope they'll be good at both English and Japanese. They like cooking, science, playing video games and board games, and playing with their cats, Felix and Otto.

Our townhouse is on a mountain near the water. There are many trees around, but there is also a bus stop very close by. You can walk to restaurants, grocery stores, the library, and the recreation centre in about 10 minutes. There are also walking trails along the water with beautiful views of the scenery.

Your room is bright and sunny. It overlooks the garden and you can see the forest from the window. The bed is large and comfortable. All the furniture is in good condition. There is a small desk with a lamp, a tall book shelf with many books for you to read, and a night table with another light. There is a dresser in the closet. You have your own heater and a fan if you get cold or too warm. The room is upstairs with the other bedrooms. It is next to the washroom with a bathtub and shower. There is a second bathroom together with the washing machine downstairs.

We want everyone to feel relaxed and comfortable in our home. Your room is yours, but you can also feel free to relax in the living room, dining room, or on the large garden patio outside. The outdoor hot tub is available in the winter. You are welcome to make your own meals or eat with us - please let us know what foods you like (or don't like!). You can even go shopping with us! We eat a lot of rice and vegetables as well as meat, seafood, pasta, and some vegetarian dishes. Some typical meals are spaghetti with meatballs and salad, or salmon, rice, and broccoli, or vegetarian chilli with homemade biscuits. You can come and go as you like, but if you stay out all night, please call or text to let us know. You can do laundry when you like. You are also welcome to have guests over, but please be a little quiet after 9:30pm on weekdays. Smoking is outside only please.

If you have any questions, just let us know. We're happy to help you prepare for school or work in Canada - just ask! We're looking forward to meeting you!

Thank you for reading our homestay description.
We wish you all the best with your stay in Vancouver!
